Cyclist, 49, dies after A689 crash between Wynyard and Sedgefield - man and woman arrested

A 49-year-old cyclist has died in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash.

At approximately 4.10pm on Friday, July 24, a collision on the A689 eastbound carriageway between Wynyard and Sedgefield involving a white Ford Fiesta, black Audi TT and a pedal cyclist.

The cyclist, a 49-year-old-man, suffered serious injuries and sadly later died at James Cook Hospital.

A 22-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and are assisting police with their enquiries.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage which may assist to contact Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on 101, reference 119601.

“Prior to the collision the white Ford Fiesta and the black Audi TT vehicles were sighted leaving the A1 so police are also requesting any information on the vehicles prior to 4.10pm.”
