Driver arrested as motorcyclist dies in two-vehicle crash

A 24-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash involving a motorbike and a car.

Cleveland Police confirmed the woman’s death in a statement on Thursday, August 20.

She was riding a motorcycle involved in a crash with a grey Ford Mondeo at around 10pm on Wednesday, August 19.

The incident took place at the junction of Cowpen Bewley Road and Macklin Avenue, Billingham.

Hartlepool families warned to stay on alert for door-to-door salesmen

Police arrested the driver of the Ford Mondeo – a 39-year-old man – on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He remains in their custody.

A force statement added: “Specially-trained officers are supporting the woman’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.”

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision, and anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.
