Driver 'feared for safety' while followed through Hartlepool by mystery motorist
A driver was in “fear of their safety” after they were followed for miles by a mystery motorist.
The incident started in Hartlepool and continued through Seaton Carew, Haverton Hill, Billingham and then onto the A19 at Billingham Bottoms.
A collision is reported to have almost occurred after the mystery motorist “branked harshly” on the dual carriageway in front of the startled driver.
A Cleveland Police statement on March 31 read: “Police are appealing for anyone with information or dash cam footage of two vehicles following an incident on Tuesday afternoon, March 30.
“Between 2.30pm-3.30pm, a silver Renault Megane is reported to have followed a white Mercedes vehicle from Hartlepool, through Seaton Carew, Haverton Hill, Billingham and onto the A19 from Billingham Bottoms.
“The driver of the Renault was reportedly driving erratically whilst trying to get the driver of the Mercedes to stop their vehicle.
"This caused the driver of the Mercedes to fear for their safety and a collision is reported to have almost occurred on the A19 south when the Renault braked harshly in front of the Mercedes.
“Officers would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or the manner of driving, or anyone who may have dash cam footage which could assist the investigation.
