Hartlepool allotment blaze is treated as suspected arson attack

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack after firefighters spent more than an hour tackling an allotment blaze.

One engine from Hartlepool Community Fire Station was called to Dowson Road, in West View, Hartlepool, at 10.40pm on Monday, April 19.Cleveland Fire Brigade said the shed was “well alight” when firefighters arrived and two jets were used to extinguish the flames.

The crew left at 11.41pm and the cause of the fire is now under investigation.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said on Tuesday: “We were contacted by our fire brigade colleagues just before 11.45pm last night, Monday, April 19, reporting they had dealt with what was described as a deliberate ignition of a shed on the allotment site at Dowson Road.

"At that stage it was not known whose shed it was and we do not appear to have received any complaint from the owner as yet.

"If anyone has any information please contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number, quoting Ref 62087.”
