Hartlepool and South Tyneside men face crown court trial over drugs plot charges

Seven people have appeared in court for for the first time over their supposed roles in alleged drugs plots.

Warrants have been issued for another two defendants after they failed to turn up before magistrates for the same hearing.

The seven who appeared, including men from Hartlepool and South Tyneside, were all granted unconditional bail at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court earlier this week ahead of a scheduled crown court trial.

The various supply charges all relate to periods between 2017 and 2018.

Glenn Stoddart, 52, of Mariners Point, Hartlepool, is charged with participating in the criminal activities of an organised crime group by supposedly delivering controlled drugs and transferring criminal property.

He is also accused of plotting to supply class B cannabis and handling criminal property.

Mark Lee Hiscock, 45, of Cheviot Road, South Shields, is charged with plotting to supply class B amphetamines and handling criminal property.

Paul Marrow, 61, of Rainford Road, St Helen’s, is accused of conspiring to supply class A cocaine.

Carl McAlindon, 36, of Abbey Drive, Jarrow, is charged with plotting to supply cocaine and amphetamines and faces two counts of handling criminal property.

David McFarlane, 52, of Hadrian Road, Jarrow, faces one count of plotting to supply amphetamines and one of handling criminal property.

Bernard Sewell, 40, of Quarry Road, Hebburn, is charged with conspiring to supply cocaine and amphetamines.

Michael John Vassallo, 42, of Oswald Street, South Shields, faces one charge of plotting to supply cocaine.

They are due to appear on Monday, June 7, at Newcastle Crown Court.

Warrants were issued by magistrates for the arrest of Baber Azim, 45, of Hawthorne Crescent, Slough, who is accused of plotting to supply cocaine and acquiring, using or possessing criminal property, and Geoffrey Frank Caine, 33, of Wyres Court Road, Liverpool, who is charged with plotting to supply cocaine and amphetamines.
