Hartlepool man accused of burgling Church Street pub and assaulting emergency workers appears at court

A man accused of burgling a Hartlepool pub and assaulting two emergency workers has appeared at court.

John David Gray, 26, of Tower Street, Hartlepool, was charged by police with criminal damage, actual bodily harm against an emergency worker, common assault of an emergency worker and burglary of The Royal Pub in Church Street.

The offences are all alleged to have taken place on Tuesday, March 31.

Gray appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court on Thursday, April 2, over a videolink for a brief hearing.

He was due to appear on Wednesday but could not due to fears he had COVID-19, the court heard.

No pleas were entered and the case was committed to Teesside Crown Court.

District Judge Helen Cousins said: “I take the view my powers are insufficient in relation to those matters.”

Gray was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the crown court on Wednesday, April 29.
