Connor Hedley, 22, was served with the non-molestation order last July which forbade him from intimidating, harassing or pestering the woman.

But late on April 8 he used the Facebook account of a friend to message and call the victim.

Hedley asked the mother of their child why she hadn’t been around which she took to refer to their son who had been unwell, said Jenny Haigh, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court.

Describing a voice call by Hedley to the victim, Ms Haigh said: “He was verbally abusive to her and kept repeating that [their son] being ill was her fault.”

He also called her a bad mum.

Hedley was arrested and admitted sending the messages but said he was trying to find out how their son was.

It also put him in breach of a suspended prison sentence he was given in March for burgling a house on October 19 last year when £770 of damage was caused.

He got 18 months prison suspended for two years.

Stephen Constatine, defending, urged the judge to impose a community order for the breaches and said Hedley had successfully completed a tagged curfew in March without any problems.

Judge Howard Crowson issued Hedley, of Mulgrave Road, Hartlepool, with a five-year restraining order and made a community order with four-week tagged curfew for breaching the non-molestation order which has now expired.

He fined him £100 for breaching the suspended sentence plus a £95 victim surcharge.
