Paul Clifford Harrisskitt, 49, from Hartlepool, was told by magistrates that they considered the offences to be “so serious” because they were “aggravated by the defendant’s record of previous offending”.

Harrisskitt admitted stealing a £4 bottle of wine from a Premier Store in the town on June 23.

In addition, Harrisskitt, of Tankerville Street, admitted stealing a £5 bottle of wine from Sainsbury, in Murray Street, Hartlepool, on June 24.

He was jailed for two weeks concurrently for each of the offences, meaning he was jailed for a fortnight in total, and was also ordered to pay £13 in compensation to the stores by September 30.

Harrisskitt received credit for his guilty pleas when his sentence was calculated.
