Hartlepool man warned all sentencing options are open as he admits nine years of controlling behaviour

A judge has warned a Hartlepool man that all sentencing options are open after he admitted charges including coercive behaviour spanning nine years.

Paul Miller, 50, pleaded guilty to controlling or coercive behaviour in a relationship between January 1, 2011 and March 1, of this year when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Monday, August 3.

It involved preventing the victim from leaving the house, controlling her movements, and physical and verbal abuse.

Miller, of Tiverton Grove, Hartlepool, also admitted actual bodily harm between January 1 and June 1, 2018, damaging £3,000 of property between February 26 and March 1, this year, and assault by beating on February 29 this year.

Sentencing was adjourned until Monday, September 7, for reports.

Judge Stephen Ashurst said: “The fact you have pleaded guilty to all four charges is something that will count in your favour when you are sentenced.

"All options will be considered.”

Miller was remanded in custody.
