Lee Bown, 47, pleaded guilty at Teesside Crown Court to possession of a blade and a separate charge of having an offensive weapon in St Aidan's Street, Hartlepool, on November 10 last year.

His legal representative Andrew Turton asked for the case to be adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the Probation Service.

Bown will learn his punishment on Friday, September 18, and was granted bail until then.

But Judge Deborah Sherwin told him: “I want to make it clear that’s no guarantee that it will be anything other than a custodial sentence in due court, but it does mean the court will have all the available information about you.”

The court heard Bown, of Stockton Road, Hartlepool, has some previous convictions but they are from some time ago.
