Hartlepool pair arrested over botched quad bike thefts

A man and a teenager have been arrested in connection with a botched attempt to steal quad bikes from a farm.

The Hartlepool pair, aged 24 and 17, have each been quizzed on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle and burglary by North Yorkshire officers.

They were arrested after police were called to a rural farm near Northallerton when a vigilant farmer spotted suspicious activity on his land on Monday, June 29, at around 7.20am.

Officers, joined by a police dog, attended immediately and arrested two suspects in nearby fields.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said gloves, a spanner and a knife were also recovered from the area.

A spokesperson for the force said on Tuesday: “On examining the scene, a farm north of Northallerton, it was established that a secure garage had been broken into and tools and two quad bikes removed.

“The quad bikes, both Honda vehicles with unique agricultural attachments, were located nearby.

“Unfortunately they had been damaged and may cost hundreds of pounds to repair.

“Both suspects were taken into custody and interviewed. Last night they were released on bail while police inquiries continue.

“Both have been given bail conditions not to enter North Yorkshire for any reason, other than answering bail.”

As well the burglary and theft of a motor vehicle allegations, the younger male suspect is also being investigated in connection with going equipped for theft and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
