Hartlepool Police take emergency action against firework yobs

Police have used emergency powers to attempt to prevent yobs from setting off fireworks and gangs of children from gathering in a play area.

A dispersal order lasting 48 hours was issued by Hartlepool Police on Saturday, October 24, after reports of repeated anti-social behaviour on Friday night at Hartfields, in the Bishop Cuthbert area of Hartlepool.

Officers say they were “met with hostility” by a gang of up to 40 youths in and around the play area and “foul language and insulting gestures”.

Hartlepool Neighbourhood Police Team have now said in a social media statement on Saturday night: "Hartlepool Neighbourhood Police Team have issued a dispersal notice for the Hartfields area of Hartlepool.

“The dispersal notice has been put in place due to the increase of anti-social behaviour, large gatherings and fireworks being set off by youths in the play area of Hartfields.

"This will be active for 48 hours for the areas bordered by Merlin Way, Meadows Walk, Osprey Way and green belt.

“Any youths located inside of this area that are seen to be causing anti-social behaviour or likely to be causing anti social behaviour, including setting off fireworks, will be asked to leave immediately and not return, failure to comply will result in repercussions.
