A family’s anguish over crime and antisocial behaviour in a Hartlepool street have sparked a reaction on Facebook.

Nicola Turnbull, 47, complained of a lack of police action against drugs activity, nuisance quad bikes, criminal damage and repeated break ins in Jutland Road.

Mrs Turnbull said the issues had become so bad her children aged nine and 11 felt like prisoners in their own home.

It prompted numerous comments from Hartlepool Mail readers on our Facebook page.

Julie Richards said: “I know lots of good respectable people who live at Jutland Road and surrounding areas it’s no different than any other areas in Hartlepool.”

Joanne Allen said: “It’s everywhere you go now. There is no discipline of the authorities so people are not bothered about being caught. Police must get frustrated when catching them then courts hand out daft sentences.”

Paul Andrew Whitlock said: “If the police continue to be cut/be ineffective, people are going to start taking matters into their own hands. And I personally don't want to see a rise in vigilantes in this town or other places.”

Kristian N Sharon Burnett said: “Jutland Road has always been like that. I got burgled in the early 90s there while I was in bed. Moved out straight away, wouldn't live there for free or even if you paid me.”

Jutland Road resident Nicola Turnbull says police are not doing enough after saying crime and antisocial behaviour has got worse in the street.

Angela Horton Herring said: “It’ll only get worse as no one is doing anything about it all... They seem to do as they like.”

Andy Neil said: “Jutland Road is like West Park compared to Oxford Road.”

Marc Atkinson said: “And just to remind our council tax is rising again to help pay for policing that doesn’t exist.”

Darren Jones said: “Don't blame the cops... How about blaming the people first... Then their drug habit second... Then their parents for not controlling them.”

Debbie Bailey said: “What a horrible situation for this family, somebody somewhere must be able to fund them & help them move.”

Cleveland Police responded to the Turnbulls’ concerns by stating they do not tolerate antisocial behaviour and pointing to action officers have taken, calling for the public to help by reporting problems.
