A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault following two separate incidents on buses in Hartlepool.

The 58-year-old man was arrested after a witness and another potential victim came forward following a police appeal.

He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Cleveland Police had described the two incidents, which both happened on the number 6 Stagecoach bus in Hartlepool earlier this year, as “suspicious”.

Police said that a young child was touched on the head while sat with a parent during the first incident.

The second incident occurred when a man is said to have attempted to kiss a teenage girl and made verbal threats towards her.

The suspect allegedly boarded the bus outside of NatWest, in York Road, in both incidents.
