Man arrested after late-night siege by armed police in Hartlepool

A man has been arrested after a major operation involving armed police at a house in Hartlepool.

The road was closed for several hours as around 15 police officers surrounded a house with three people inside in response to reports a man with a knife was threatening people.

Armed police were among those at the scene for around five hours.

Officers were in the street from shortly before 9pm last night, Saturday, April 26, until the early hours of this morning.

No-one was hurt in the incident. A man who was arrested at the scene is being questioned today.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman confirmed details of last night’s operation and said a man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.

“Police attended an address on Northgate, Hartlepool, at around 8.50pm on the evening of Saturday 25th April, whereby a man was believed to be in possession of a knife and was allegedly making threats,” she said on Sunday afternoon .

“Two other people were inside the address at the time.

“Armed officers attended the scene.

“No one suffered any injuries as a result of the incident.

“Officers arrested a 32-year-old man from the Hartlepool area on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, common assault on an emergency worker and threats to kill.

“He remains in police custody at this time.”
