Man arrested on suspicion of arson after Hartlepool house fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing arson following a house fire.

Cleveland Police detained the man, who is aged in his 60, in connection with a blaze in York Road, Hartlepool, between its junctions with Raby Road and Grange Road, on Tuesday, May 18.

The force are still appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

A Cleveland Police statement said: “The man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and he has since been released on bail with conditions. Inquiries are ongoing.

“Officers would appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have seen anyone behaving suspiciously in the area of York Road between 7.45am and 9am on Tuesday, May 18.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant David Donoghue on 101, quoting incident number 079428.
