Man arrested on suspicion of drug driving after car crash during police chase

A man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following a police chase in Billingham.

A 28-year-old man remains in police custody this morning (Wednesday, June 24) following a small police pursuit where a car then collided with two parked vehicles in Billingham.

Officers from the Road Policing Unity had noticed a suspicious Seat Altea in the early hours of the morning in High Grange Avenue in Billingham.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “The driver of vehicle reportedly failed to stop for police and following a small pursuit, the vehicle reportedly collided with two parked vehicles.

“Officers arrested the male driver aged 28 on suspicion of driving dangerously, driving under the influence of drugs, failing to stop and for possessing class B drugs.

“Suspected class B drugs were also recovered from the vehicle.”

The 28-year-old remains in police custody at this time.
