A man will appear in court charged with burglary after £5,000 was stolen from a pensioner during an incident in Hartlepool.

Photography equipment and £5,000 was stolen from an elderly man, who is aged in his 80s, during the alleged burglary, Cleveland Police say.

A 33-year-old man will appear before magistrates today (Thursday, July 2) charged with burglary.

The burglary, which happened between Saturday, June 13, and Monday, June 15, took place in the Burn Valley area of Hartlepool.

Officers arrested the suspect, who is from the Hartlepool area, on Wednesday, July 1 following a police investigation into the incident.

A force spokesman said: “Officers from Hartlepool response, CID and forensics worked together to investigate and arrest a 33-year-old man who was subsequently charged yesterday, Wednesday, July 1.

“The man, from the Hartlepool area, is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court today, Thursday, July 2.
