Man charged with theft and assault after incident at Hartlepool Sainsbury’s store

A man has been charged with theft and assault following an incident at a Sainsbury's store in Hartlepool.

Police were called to the Sainsbury’s store on Murray Street on Thursday, November 19, following reports that a man had entered the store and committed a theft, before returning within minutes to allegedly assault a member of staff and cause damage within the shop.

He was detained by store staff and a member of the public until police arrived.

A 22-year-old man has subsquently been charged with theft, assaulting an emergency worker, affray, possession of an offensive weapon and assault. He is due to appear before the court.
