Man due in court after alleged burglary at Hartlepool Tesco store during second week of lockdown

A man will appear before magistrates in Teesside charged with burglary at a Tesco Express branch, alleged to have taken place during the second week of the coronavirus lockdown.

Cleveland Police confirmed on Friday, April 3 that a 43-year-old Hartlepool man is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court after an alleged burglary at a Tesco Express on Wiltshire Way in the town in the early hours of Tuesday, March 31.

This was just days into the second week of a UK lockdown, imposed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday, March 23 after he gave a televised address to the nation.

The force said in a statement that the man was charged with burglary, contravening a requirement as to restriction of movement during emergency period – coronavirus, and possession of a class B drug.
