Man due in court over death of cyclist Michael Waistell in Hartlepool

Cleveland Police has charged a man with causing death by dangerous driving following a collision in which a cyclist lost his life.

The incident happened in Mowbray Road, Hartlepool, at around 6.45am on Friday, July 31 and involved a cyclist and a white Transit van.

A 35-year-old man was arrested by Cleveland Police and charged this morning – Saturday, August 1. He will appear before magistrates at Teesside today.

A statement from the force added: “We would like to thank those members of the public who contacted police with information and would still like to hear from anyone who may have seen a white Transit van marked with a blue logo travelling in the Easington Road to Owton Manor areas between 6.30am and 7am yesterday.”
