A man was found hiding in a shed after police launched a search for him following a domestic disturbance.

Cleveland Police officers headed to the a house as they investigated an abandoned 999 call in the early hours of last Friday, February 5.

Police received the call at 1.28am and as it appeared to reflect an ongoing disturbance, numerous officers immediately attended the address - where they found the 29-year-old man hiding in a garden shed.

He was arrested and was dealt with by means of a fine at courts later that day for breaching a domestic violence protection order (DVPO).

Any further breach could result in another fine or even imprisonment, and in the meantime specialist officers will continue to offer the victim help, advice and support.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Cleveland Police is making increasing use of DVPOs as they are a useful tool to quickly safeguard and protect anyone experiencing domestic abuse - and allow them time and space to consider their options.

“Victims can also seek help from domestic abuse charities both locally and nationally and remember, current ‘Stay at Home; advice does NOT apply if you need to leave an abusive situation.

“Officers monitor everyone subject to these orders and will always take swift action to deal with any breaches.

“If you’re experiencing domestic abuse and are ready to report please contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number.

“Always use 999 in an emergency and if you can’t speak, stay on the line and press 55 when prompted.

"This lets the operator know that you need help.”
