Men try to chase thief who pushed woman to ground as she was robbed of her bike on Hartlepool street

Two men who went to the aid of a woman after she was pushed to the ground as she robbed of her bike have been praised by police.

Cleveland Police have thanked the pair after they rushed to help the lady after she was pushed from her bicycle in Cornwall Street in Hartlepool and tried to chase the thief as he headed off towards Stockton Road in the town.

Now, as they try to find the thug responsible and trace the missing bike, detectives are appealing for any further witnesses to come forward to help with their investigation.

The woman’s ordeal happened at around 10pm last night, Wednesday, October 28.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The woman reported being approached by an unknown man who took the bike and made off in the direction of Stockton Road.

“Two men who were nearby attempted to assist the female victim and gave chase to the unknown man but were unable to catch him.

"Officers have praised their efforts and are keen to hear from them and anyone else who may have witnessed the robbery.”

The stolen bike is distinctive and described as having a black frame with the ‘TREK’ branding, orange pedals and red handle grips on an extended handlebar.

The bike also has dual suspension and a suspension seat.

In addition to witnesses to the attack police want to hear from anyone who may have seen or been offered the unusual bike in the aftermath of the theft to call 101, reference 177499.
