Motorist clocked speeding at 80mph in 50mph zone near Hartlepool
Motorists have been clocked speeding at up to 94 miles per hour in 50 miles per hour zones over the weekend.
Other speeds registered included a driver travelling at 80 miles per hour in a 50 miles per hour zone of Coal Lane, Wolviston, near Hartlepool.
A Cleveland Police statement read: “Officers carrying out speed checks this weekend have found drivers travelling at excess speeds of up to 94mph.
“On Friday, a vehicle was clocked travelling at 94mph on Queen Elizabeth Way, in Ingleby Barwick, where the speed limit is 50mph.
“Other drivers found speeding included one driver travelling at 80mph on the A689 Coal Lane (50mph limit), 46mph on Belasis Avenue, in Billingham (30mph limit), and 63mph on Mitchell Avenue, in Thornaby, (30mph limit).
“These drivers can now expect a fine and penalty points or to appear at magistrates’ court.
“Speed camera enforcement officers from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit will continue to give these areas attention as drivers flout the law.”
