Motorists stopped in Hartlepool as part of drink driving crackdown

"A small number” were said to have attempted to make off from police following the incidents on Friday night and Saturday morning.
A Cleveland Police statement over the weekend said: “These were right across the force area including the A66 at Middlesbrough, Stockton town centre, and Raby Road, in Hartlepool.

Hide Ad“Some were followed due to alleged erratic driving and a small number were reported to have attempted to make off from police.”
Roads Policing Sergeant Stephen Clyburn added: “Drink/drug driving is one of the fatal four. The main causes of injury or even death on the UK’s roads.
“Our officers work hard every day and night to keep our road networks safe for all motorists and passengers and we will not tolerate drink/drug driving.
"You will be caught and you will be dealt with.”
The drivers were stopped by officers from the joint Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit.
