Number plates stolen from cars parked on Hartlepool streets

Drivers have been urged to leave vehicles in well-lit places and in a garage or on a driveway after a spate of number plate thefts.

Cleveland Police has issued a warning to residents after eight reports of vehicle registration plates being stolen in Hartlepool.

There have been eight offences reported in the Foggy Furze, Burn Valley and Victoria wards of the town, with the most recent on Thursday, December 3.

In six of the incidents, only one registration plate was stolen, however in another two both front and rear plates were stolen by the thieves.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers would like to remind people to park their vehicle in a well lit area where possible, such as under a street lamp, or in a garage or driveway."
