Police discover over 120 cannabis plants at Peterlee address following concerns from electricity provider

Police dismantled a large cannabis grow of more than 120 cannabis plants after officers were alerted to suspicious activity at an address by the electricity provider.

Officers from Peterlee Neighbourhood team dismantled a large cannabis grow at an address on North Road, Wingate over the weekend following concerns from the electricity provider.

Police found more than 120 mature cannabis plants and a substantial amount of equipment from inside the address.

An investigation has now been launched.

In a statement online, Peterlee Police said: “This weekend, officers from the Neighbourhood team have dismantled a large cannabis grow at an address on North Road, Wingate.

“The team were alerted to suspicious activity at the address by the electricity provider and subsequently discovered the grow.

“Over 120 mature cannabis plants and a substantial amount of equipment was recovered from inside the address.

The large cannabis grow was found at an address on North Road, Wingate.

“An investigation is now underway."

Police urge anyone with information to contact them on 101 and via their website or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
