Police hunt for hit-and-run motorist after pensioner injured in cycle smash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was taken to hospital with injuries following a hit-and-run collision involving a car and the cycle he was riding.

Cleveland Police say the incident happened in The Causeway, Billingham, and that a 79-year-old man, who was riding the pedal cycle, was involved in a collision with a red car which did not stop.

The cyclist was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, for treatment to minor injuries before he was later released.The force said: “Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who may know the identity of the mystery driver involved.”

The incident took place on Wednesday, August 19, at around 3.20pm although details have just been released on Monday, August 24.

Anyone with information can contact PC Ian Stapley, from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 135317.
