Police issue warning after lockdown Hartlepool house party - but thank majority for sticking to new rules

The new rules came into place at one minute past midnight on Saturday, October 3, with people living in Hartlepool and Middlesbrough facing new restrictions, including on who they are able to meet up with.

Between 7am on Saturday October 3, until 7am on Sunday October 4, Cleveland Police received 37 reports of people not complying with the legislation in the Cleveland area.

The calls concerned people not wearing masks, alleged house parties and complaints that takeaways were open to customers past the 10pm curfew. However, police say this is a relatively small number of reports and shows the vast majority are adhering to the rules.

Cleveland Police say the force will continue to engage with the public to advise and, if necessary, enforce the legislation. They ask people to continue to follow the guidelines to protect the vulnerable in the community and to potentially save lives.

The new rules mean residents must not meet anyone who is not in their household in private home and gardens, or any other locations indoors including in pubs, restaurants and bars.

The ban covers not only Hartlepool but also residents travelling outside the borough.
