Police probe racism allegation following Hartlepool United v Ebbsfleet United FC match

Police are investigating an alleged incident of racism said to have taken place during Hartlepool United’s match against Ebbsfleet United FC.

Cleveland Police said they are working closely with Hartlepool United and inquiries are ongoing.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police were made aware of an allegation of a racist comment made during the Hartlepool United and Ebbsfleet United FC match this weekend.

“Officers have been working closely with the club and inquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone who may have information regarding the incident is asked to contact Sergeant Adrian Dack on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Meanwhile the club said that two alleged incidents of racism during the game have been made and they are being the subject of a full investigation.

Condemning ‘abuse of any nature’, a club spokesman said Hartlepool United are committed to promoting diversity and educating inclusivity.

A Hartlepool United spokesman said: “Following the fixture against Ebbsfleet United, we can confirm that allegations of two incidents during the game have been made.

“It is important to state that, at this stage, these alleged incidents are unsubstantiated and will be subject to a full investigation.

“We will hide nothing in our thorough examination of the facts and will respond to any enquiries from any authorities.

“As importantly, once we have carried out a full investigation we will identify any action required and, regardless of this, will not be distracted from our commitment and efforts to promote diversity and educate inclusivity.

“Hartlepool United condemn abuse of any nature and we will continue to work closely with the relevant bodies to ensure that Victoria Park is a safe and welcoming environment for all supporters, staff and players.”
