Police warning after medications stolen from ambulance service

A ‘potentially dangerous’ bag of medications has been stolen from paramedics.

Cleveland Police has now issued a warning to members of the public, as the medicines could be dangerous if taken without being prescribed.

The incident happened with paramedics were called to a medical incident Cotswold Crescent, in Billingham, at around 10pm on Friday, July 3.

Following this, a member of the public handed a bag of medication to a man driving a grey Alfa Romeo, which had an 07 registration plate.

The man said that he would return the bag to paramedics, who were parked in an ambulance nearby.

However, the ambulance service staff did not receive the bag and reported the medication as stolen.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We reported a bag missing from our ambulance to police following an incident last night and are supporting them with their inquiries.

“We urge anyone who comes across this bag to please return it to the police as soon as possible.”

An investigation is ongoing to recover the stolen medications.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police added: “If taken by someone who is not prescribed the medication, it could be very dangerous and so officers would ask anyone who may find the North East Ambulance Service medication bag to hand it in at any local police station or pharmacy.

“Anyone with information regarding the stolen medication is asked to call 101, quoting event number 107335 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or go online to www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
