Suspect arrested after man and woman suffer stab wounds in Hartlepool's Stephen Street and Sheriff Street

Police are appealing for witnesses and CCTV footage after a man and woman suffered a stab wound each.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) contacted police around 9,20pm on Wednesday, September 4, when a 30-year-old man suffered a stab wound to his abdomen in Stephen Street, Hartlepool, and was taken to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Cleveland Police said in a statement: “A short time later, around 9.40pm, officers attended a report that a 36-year-old woman had also suffered a minor stabbing injury to her leg at a property on Sheriff Street.

"She was not taken to hospital.

“The incidents are being linked and the victims are believed to have known the suspect.

“A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with both incidents and he currently remains in police custody.

“Detectives would appeal for any witnesses to these incidents or anyone with CCTV footage to contact Hartlepool CID on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number SE24171029.
