John Garside, prosecuting at Teesside Magistrates’ Court said: “There are three offences where the defendant has taken property from three motor vehicles.

“A co-defendant has been sentenced for his involvement.”

District Judge Helen Cousins told Hunter: “This was a stupid series of offences where the most bizarre things were taken.”

The court heard Hunter, of Boswell Grove, Hartlepool, is on benefits and does not have a lot of previous convictions, but does have problems with drugs.

She was given a 12-month community order including six months drug rehabilitation.

The judge added: “That’s designed to help you because you are going to get yourself into more and more of these stupid messes if you carry on the way you are going.”

Hunter was also ordered to pay £150 in compensation to the three victims of the thefts and £85 case costs.

The community order also includes a requirement to complete up to 15 rehabilitation activity days.
