It was part of a crackdown by the Hartlepool Community Safety team with Cleveland Police and Hartlepool Borough Council working together after residents reported the issues to them.

Marie Hartland, of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team, said: “The Hartlepool Community Safety Team is not prepared to tolerate such behaviour, and we immediately began to compile a case against these two addresses as soon as the problems in Stirling Street were reported to us.”

Anyone who breaches the closure orders risk arrest and even prison.

Neighbourhood police officer, Inspector Mark Haworth, added: “We will continue to work with the council to close down addresses which are causing problems for the law abiding majority.

Last week, the community safety team, which also includes representatives of Cleveland Fire Brigade, police and crime commissioner and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, held a ‘day of action’ nearby in Cornwall Street, Charterhouse Street, Uppingham Street, Richmond Street, Dorset Street and Rydal Street.

Residents were given free home security kits containing door and window alarms, a TV simulator, UV property marking pen and light timers.
