Two arrested and one man taken to hospital with serious head injuries after brawl in Hartlepool

Officers were called out after reports a fight had erupted involving five-to-six people in the town centre on Saturday, September 12.
Cleveland Police said a call reporting the disturbance in Church Street came in shortly before 11pm.

Hide AdA force spokesperson said officers arrived to find the disturbance was over, and made one arrest – but fresh violence flared up, resulting in a further arrest and a man being taken to hospital.
In a statement, the force spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.55pm to Church Street in Hartlepool following reports of a disturbance between a group of people.
“On police arrival the group had dispersed, however a 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and received a fixed penalty notice. Officers believe that around five-six people were fighting, but were surrounded by many bystanders.
“When police were at the location, another disturbance broke out between two men. A 20-year-old man was taken to University Hospital of North Tees with serious head injuries where he remains.

Hide Ad“A 17-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 GBH and is in police custody. Officers put a cordon in place on Church Street as part of the investigation, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information.”
A cordon was put up which was still in place on Sunday morning.
