Two men arrested on suspicion of stealing industrial plant equipment from the side of the A19

Two men are in Cleveland Police’s custody after eagle-eyed road traffic officers on patrol spotted suspected stolen industrial plant equipment being towed by a blue van.

The incident took place at around 5.40pm on Monday, October 26 just off the A19 on the A689 at Wynyard.

Officers investigating the crime suspect that the equipment, an industrial high-powered pressure washer, had been stolen from the side of the A19 near to ongoing road works.

The stolen washer was left by the side of the road, the force said in a statement on Tuesday, October 27, when the men saw the police before driving off in the van.

Officers then caught up with the blue van a short time later.

Two men, aged 47 and 51, were arrested on suspicion of theft. They currently remain in police custody.
