Village shop targeted in armed robbery in broad daylight

A village shop has been targeted in an armed robbery in the middle of the afternoon.

Hesleden Village Shop & Post Office on Front Street, Hesleden, was targeted by an armed man at around 4.15pm on Monday, July 12.

The suspect made off when police arrived but was later arrested and released under investigation.

A Durham Constabluary spokeswoman said: “Police were called at approximately 4.15pm to an ongoing armed robbery.

“The suspect made off on police arrival but was later arrested.

"He has since been released under investigation.”
