On Tuesday, December 29, the trust reported that 20 deaths had occurred from the virus over Christmas, which represented the highest number of Covid-19 deaths at the trust for a single day since the start of the pandemic.
It follows confirmation that the North East’s Nighingale Hospital remains on standby to treat Covid patients should hospitals across the region become overwhelmed.
