Pools used tonight's tie to get match-time in a number of first-team men, notably Luke George, who skippered the side, Blair Adams, Jack Munns, Connor Simpson, Kenton Richardson and Scott Harrison.

George, who played an hour, took up the role of holding midfielder and pulled the strings, with Munns alongside him.

Hebburn took a 68th minute lead through midfielder Mechak Kaanda with Liam Travers heading Matthew Bates's side level eight minutes from time.

There was little of goalmouth action in the opening 45 minutes though it proved decent fare for the crowd of 139, which included a noisy visiting contingent from South Tyneside.

Hebburn, who looked to play football, had an effort on target to cheer when midfielder Mechak Kaanda's deflected shot forced Ryan Catterick to make a diving save.

Pools had plenty of the ball, but often the last pass would let them down.

After a fine four-man move, Adams flashed a dangerous ball across the face of the Hebburn goal on 32 minutes but no-one was there to convert.

Pools made a double change just before the hour, withdrawing George and Adams, bringing on Josh Bayne and Jack Cooper.

Left-back Cooper was straight into the tie, his diagonal ball being volleyed wide by Harrison.

Pools fell behind in an eventful 68th minute.

Jacob Owen conceded a penalty for handball but Ryan Catterick produced a brilliant diving save to his right to keep out Paul Chow's spot-kick.

However, the teenager's heroics were in vain. Hebburn attacked straight away and after Catterick made another good save, KAANDA followed up to score from 12 yards.

Pools had it all to do but for all their possession, they never tested Steven Hubrery in the away goal, Owen and Josh Hawkes both well wide with shots from distance.
