Police along with colleagues from the Army Ordnance Disposal, have carried out several controlled explosions on Aykley Heads Street, near to Police HQ, to destroy unwanted ammunition.

In a statement on their Facebook page Durham Constabulary said: "The explosions were to destroy unwanted ammunition, obviously this is an unusual event, but there is no reason to be alarmed and we apologise for any disruption."
