Cleveland Police issue update following death of two men at Hartlepool's Seaton Carew beach
Police say they are continuing to carry out enquiries after the tragic deaths of two men at Seaton Carew on Sunday.
The men died after attempting to rescue two children who had got into difficultly in the sea at around 3.45pm.
Police say another two men also entered the water to assist, but both managed to get out of the water safely.
One, Davey Short, 48, of Seaton Carew, told a local news agency he and another man managed to get lad out after the boy’s mother asked him for help.

Mr Short said instinct took over and he did not think about the danger.
Both children were taken to hospital for checks as a precaution, but sadly two men were brought out of the water by the RNLI and were pronounced dead a short time later.
Cleveland Police said formal identification of both the men is yet to take place, and their thoughts continue to be with their families.
Temporary Chief Superintendent Helen Wilson said: “Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by the incident in Seaton Carew yesterday.
“We are continuing to carry out enquiries on behalf of the Coroner, and officers are supporting the families involved in this incident.”
