Ex-England goalie Scott Loach is top, top class at Hartlepool United

The Pools boss made the 29-year-old one of his first signings when he took the hot-seat at Victoria Park.

And his judgement has been rewarded with great display after great display from the experienced former England man.

Loach may not have won the man of the match award against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, but he was out of this world – again.

The former Watford and Ipswich star will be a vital figure again tonight at Wrexham, where Pools look to extend their unbeaten run to four games (kick-off 7.45pm).

“No doubt it, he is a top, top class goalkeeper,” said Harrison.

“When I say he should be making those saves, I say it tongue in cheek.

“I don’t think there is anyone who appreciates Loachy as much as I do.

“He was one of the first signings I made, I know what he’s done where’s he’s been, know his experience.”

Pools have been blessed in recent times by their calibre of goalkeeper with the long-serving Scott Flinders being followed by Trevor Carson, currently going strong in the SPL at Motherwell.

Loach has everything needed in a top-drawer keeper – at 6ft 3in he carries physical presence, his shot-stopping is superb and he is a great presence in the squad.

“He’s a leader in the dressing room and again we counted on him on two or three occasions and he’s come up with the goods again,” said Harrison.

“It’s no coincidence we pick up three points when our goalkeeper has been different class.”
