Family and friends of tragic Hartlepool 21-year-old to scale Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon in his memory

Connor McDade, who lived in Seaton Carew, lost his life after being hit by a car near the Tyne Bridge while on a night out in Newcastle last April.

He was just 21 years old.

This May, Connor’s brothers John David (known as JD) and Mark McDade, together with three friends, will climb the UK’s three tallest mountains in succession and hope to raise thousands of pounds for three different charities.

JD, 37, who is an award-winning stand up comedian, said: “This was Mark’s idea. He is a very active and outdoors guy and he just said ‘we need to do something’.

“Initially it was going to be a sponsored walk, then going round football grounds then Mark said how about doing the Three Peak Challenge.”

The group plan to climb Scotland’s Ben Nevis (4,413 ft), Scafell Pike in the Lake District (3,209 ft) and Mount Snowdon in Wales (3,560 ft) all in the space of 24 to 36 hours.

JD and Mark, who live in Scotland, will be joined by Connor’s friends Gordon Lachlan, 36, Martin Mann and two old school friends both coincidentally called Thomas Renicks.

Whatever money they raise will be split between road safety charity Brake, the Prince’s Trust and the Organ Donor Register.

Connor was a member of the donor register but sadly his organs were unable to be donated at the time of his death.

JD added: “From a young age Connor signed up to be an organ donor.

“Because of the work the Blood and Transplant Service do and how amazing and comforting they were to us we thought it only fair to raise money for them.”

JD added Connor was also very fond of his only two nephews Lewis, 13, and Matthew, two, and went out of his way to help the girl he loved get a job at an animal centre in Stockton.

During the three peaks challenge JD and Mark, a police officer, will sprinkle some of Connor’s ashes that they will carry with them.

JD said: “If he was alive and it was for someone else Connor would be the first to put his name forward.

“I’m looking forward to it and spending time with my brother, but not the physical exhaustion or lack of sleep.

“But it is for a good purpose.”

They are looking for potential sponsors for things such as walking boots, outdoor clothing and hill walking equipment.
