Family pays tribute to young woman who died after motorbike collision in Billingham

The mother of a young woman who died in a road collision in Billingham has paid tribute to her daughter.

Twenty- four-year-old Rebecca Hewes – known as Becci – died after her motorcycle collided with a grey Ford Mondeo around 10pm on Wednesday, August 19, .

The incident took place at the junction of Cowpen Bewley Road and Macklin Avenue, Billingham.

Cleveland Police confirmed the next day that she had been declared dead at the scene.

In a statement released by Cleveland Police today, her mum said: “Becci was a much loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.

“Becci tragically lost her life riding home from a job she loved; as a team leader in a service caring for others at SJOG (Saint John of God).

“Everyone who knew Becci loved her. She was full of life, full of fun and her leaving us has left a hole that will never be filled.

Motorists face action after police stop operation

Becci’s family would also like to thank all those who tried to help her at the scene.

Police arrested the driver of the Ford Mondeo – a 39-year-old man – on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision, and anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.
