Firefighters cut toddler's leg free from shopping trolley at Hartlepool supermarket

A young boy had his leg freed from a supermarket trolley in Hartlepool with the help of firefighters.

Crews were called to the Lidl supermarket on Brenda Road at around 11.30am on Tuesday, October 20.

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson told the Mail: “We were called this morning to an incident at Lidl in Hartlepool.

“A male toddler with his leg trapped in shopping trolley. One fire engine from Hartlepool station attended and crews used small tools to release the toddler.”

A spokesperson for supermarket Lidl confirmed that the incident had taken place, and gave thanks to the emergency services, and its staff, for their work at the scene.

They said: “We can confirm that the fire brigade were called to our Hartlepool store to assist with an incident involving one of our customers.

"Thanks to the actions of the emergency services and the store team the issue was swiftly resolved and the customers involved returned home safely.”
