Firefighters tackle blaze in fish and chip shop

One appliance each from Stranton and Stockton fire stations were called to Brierton Fisheries / Pizzeria, Brierton Lane, at 4.22pm today.

Owners were forced to close the shop for the day, while a clean-up operation got underway.

They are hoping to reopen as normal tomorrow.

A spokeswoman from Cleveland Fire and Rescue Service said a gas range in the shop had been "well alight".

The fire was being tackled with the help of two breathing apparatus and a dry powder and o2 extinguisher, she added.
