The Gus Robinson Foundation works closely with Hartlepool College of Further Education and others to offer bursaries, scholarships, cadetships and awards to local youngsters.

Foundation chairman Michael Bretherick said: “The trustees are overwhelmed by the volume of support from local businesses and individuals.

“Our ultimate aim is to raise funds for the Foundation, which will crucially be fed back into our community to benefit youngsters from this region.

“Every penny raised by the Foundation goes to local people.

“Most recently we have been able to support many local initiatives and individuals through Foundation funding, and we are focused on collaborating with local businesses to ensure we continue to raise the aspirations of local youngsters.”

The black tie event is on Saturday, May 21, at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield. Live music from Quadrophonic and an auction including top prizes such as a signed England shirt from Paul Gascoigne, are planned.

Judith Robinson, Foundation Trustee, is chairing the Committee.

She said: “There are currently still a few tables left, but we are almost at capacity.”

She thanked everyone who has donated auction or tombola prizes and urged others to do the same.
