Foodbank given major boost as power station workers donate enough for over 800 meals

Employees from Doosan Babcock Hartlepool Power Station and Doosan Babcock SABIC provided 353kgs of food, which equates to 840 meals.

After getting in touch with the foodbank, which is based in Church Street, Hartlepool, they donated items which were most in need, including long-life milk, sugar, coffee, instant mash, rice and tinned fruit.

The power station has shown its support for the foodbank consistently since it was opened in December 2012, and made the latest donation after holding a community day.

Al Wales, the foodbank’s manager, said: “This was a very timely donation, as there are quite a few items that the foodbank urgently needs.

“We are extremely grateful to Doosan and SABIC for their continued support of foodbank shown over the last few years.

“We are always thankful for the goodwill of residents and corporate support in the town. A support base in the town is now being established, and it is fantastic for the foodbank as it allows us to help more and more people.”

The foodbank is open on Tuesdays and Fridays between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

It is now appealing for local businesses to help them buy a van to transport the food which is donated, which can be done on a sponsorship basis.

Al added: “A van would be a massive help for us, so if anyone can help with that, we would greatly appreciate it.

“We can’t keep all of our food in the distribution centre, so just keep enough for the next session in there and keep the rest elsewhere.

“A van would help us so much to transport it.”
