Former Hartlepool United boss Ronnie Moore could be set for return to management with Chester FC

The former Hartlepool United manager - who was sacked as Pools boss in February - hasn't applied for the managerial vacancy but admits he would be open to taking on the role.

Moore helped steer Pools towards League Two safety last season against all the odds but was dismissed earlier this year after a disappointing 2015-16 campaign, with the former Rotherham United and Tranmere Rovers boss replaced by Craig Hignett.

The 63-year-old hasn't managed outside the Football League since 1996 but he is open to the challenge.

Moore told the Chester Chronicle: "I’ve not applied for the job and I’ve not submitted my CV but it was something that was mentioned to me because a few supporters had linked me and I’ve always been up for a challenge so never say never.

"It’s a good club and one with fantastic support and if someone goes in there and gets it right then I think it’s a club that it is a bit of a sleeping giant.

"It’s run by the supporters and obviously they will only want the best for the club so I think it depends on what they want from a manager.

"Do they want someone who has been in the non-league game for a while or do they want someone with the experience of the Football League to try and move them on?

"I haven’t got an agent who will go banging on doors for me but if someone from the club wanted to pick up the phone then I’d be happy to talk to them.

"My garden looks like Wembley at the moment so I don’t want to be doing too much more of that and the wife has been teaching me how to use the dishwasher and the washing machine.

"You get to the point where you’re ready for the next challenge and I’m sure the Mrs will be all for it to get me from under her feet," added Liverpool-born Moore, who lives in South Yorkshire.

Fan-owned Chester FC, who sacked former manager Steve Burr last week, are currently 19th in the National League, four points clear of the relegation zone.
