Due to the current transfer embargo, imposed on the club since November by the National League, Pools have been unable to sign new players this month.

They were also unable to extend the deal for Franks and Saints loan man Keith Watson, despite an agreement already being in place for the Scottish defender.

And while Watson has returned to Perth this month, Victoria Park teammate Franks has followed him.

Manager Tommy Wright is set to run the rule of the 27-year-old, who scored six goals in 22 appearances during his second spell at the Vic.

Speaking to press north of the border, former Newcastle United and Northern Ireland goalkeeper Wright, said: "On the ins and outs we are still working hard to get something done.

"We have four or five irons in the fire and they won’t all happen. But it is a waiting game at the moment.

"We have Jonathan Franks in training for a couple of days. We are having a close look at him."
